French officials have consented to start stopping small boats in the English Channel, following months of pressure from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift comes after the British leader sent a letter to the President urging him to back the initiative and saying there currently "have no effective deterrent" in the maritime passage.

French security forces will be allowed to intercept the migrant vessels at sea, but only before they've picked up their migrants, according to authoritative statements.

French authorities have infrequently intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is viewed as excessively high a risk to both personnel and civilians.

"It is crucial that we deploy these tactics this period... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel waters."

Currently, a French maritime police spokesperson states officers will begin intervening at sea, with the objective of protecting human life.

Significantly, the official ruled out the use of nets to intercept boats, which had previously been suggested as a potential technique to disable the propellers of the boats.

The decision to take action at all is a significant step forward, coming after a short-lived shift towards a more aggressive approach this warmer season, which ceased when the former government official departed from government.

This was demonstrated in July, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and President, when French police were observed walking into the sea to slash the hulls of a boat.

Currently French officials will again be permitted to stop boats before they pick up migrant individuals from the coastal areas of northern France, although it's not clear how the small boats will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are currently postponing the commencement of interceptions and the people-smuggling networks will be seeking methods to adjust to avoid detection, as they have done so often in the past.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for comment.
